About the maker
The Anglepoise lamp was designed and manufactured by UK based firm Herbert Terry & Sons. It has evolved over it's lifetime but has it's simple yet ingenious arm-like articulation has remained a constant feature of the lamps. In 1939, like many UK manufacturers, HT&S switched mainly over to ‘war work’, where they went on to produce Anglepoise’s for British bomber planes such as the famous Lancaster. The design was ideal for navigators chart tables, so a modified version of the 1227 was produced for the Air Ministry known as the 5C/1079. It was lightweight to conform with onboard weight restrictions and ran on 12v.
