About the maker

W.A.S. Benson (1854–1924) was a leading designer of the Arts and Crafts Movement, renowned for his elegant and innovative lighting. Trained as an architect, Benson shifted to metalwork and lighting in the 1880s, founding a workshop in London that produced finely crafted brass and copper fixtures. His designs, often retailed by Morris & Co., combined artistic beauty with early electric functionality. Benson’s work remains highly collectible, prized for its craftsmanship and timeless appeal in antique lighting.
