A brass Dugdills wall‑mounted lamp. c.1920

A finely engineered early 20th‑century Dugdills wall lamp in solid brass, built with the maker’s signature articulated joints and sculptural detailing. The arms feature the classic Dugdills 'rosette' tightening wheels and smooth pivoting sections, allowing precise adjustment and a wide range of movement. The shade is made from brass in a ribbed, shell‑like form with a warm, naturally aged surface. The wall plate retains its original decorative casting and is stamped with the makers mark.

A rare and highly decorative example of Dugdills’ industrial lighting - functional, beautifully made, and full of early workshop character.

About the maker
Founded in the late 19th century in Manchester by electrical engineer John Dugdill, the company became known for producing durable, mechanically elegant lighting for workshops and factories across Britain. Their lamps were fitted to lathes, benches and machinery in vast numbers, yet each was built with a level of care that allowed it to withstand a lifetime of daily use.

Early Dugdills designs are distinguished by their signature rosette or cog tightening wheel, a clever joint mechanism that locks the lamp securely in any position. Customers could order their lamps in a range of finishes - painted, oxy‑copper, nickel‑plated or brass - giving even the most utilitarian fittings a touch of refinement.
