An exceptional prismatic glass plafonnier pendant by Holophane. c.1910.

The deep‑cut glass bowl bears the Holophane stamp to the rim and throws a beautifully even, characterful light - exactly what makes these early prismatic shades so sought after.

It’s set within a superb early iron ring by F & C Osler, a double‑layered construction with hand‑peened rivets, forged loops, original chain and hanger. The quality of the metalwork is unmistakable: robust, finely detailed, and engineered to the typical quality of Osler pieces of the period.

A rare combination of two top makers, brought together in a pendant that feels both industrial and refined. A standout piece of early 20th‑century lighting design.

Rewired with black twisted flex and an E27 bulb holder.

About the maker
Holophane was founded in 1896 by businessman Otis Mygatt who set up companies in both America and the UK for the production and sale of their ingeniously designed prismatic lenses and reflectors. Holophane lights are used all over the world in a multitude of different environments, each serving a different purpose - whether it be a library, a train station or a chemical plant. The word Holophane derives itself from the Greek words 'Holos' and 'Phainein' meaning 'to appear completely luminous'. Later on in it's production Holophane secured the largest-ever single lighting order in the UK of 65,000 fittings, covering 186 miles of tunnels in the London Underground. Holophane has provided some 80 years of service to the London Underground in total.
